The IASL Global Space Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security in the outer space domain. The Council serves as a key advisory body to the IASL President, Supreme Academic Council, and Space Law Steering Committee on space-related security issues.
The IASL Global Space Security Council takes the assessment and consultative lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression whenever space capabilities become a factor. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of a settlement. In some cases, the IASL Global Space Security Council can resort to making a statement on behalf of the Academy agreed upon and approved by the President in advance.
