IASL holds roundtable with State Duma (Russian Parliament), Roscosmos, stakeholders on capacity-building in space law
IASL President Dr. Artem V. Bondarenko took part in a roundtable on building capacity in space law held February 25, 2020 by Roscosmos and private sector with the participation of some other key national stakeholders. The roundtable participants noted Russia's continued commitment to the principles and norms of international law and spoke out for more active involvement of bona fide space actors from the private sector and further development of international cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. Dr. Artem V. Bondarenko, as he addressed the audience, emphasized the importance for the entire cosmonautics and for the Russian space industry in particular of the recently adopted set of guidelines for the long-term sustainability of space activities. The IASL President added that the Russian Federation was among the most active developers and participants in the course of the discussion of these principles, making a significant contribution to their finalization. According to Dr. Bondarenko, the implementation of the set of guidelines at the national level in the legislation of the Russian Federation was intended to help ensure the security and long-term sustainability of Russia's space activities as well as strengthen the international authority of Russia as a leading space power.
