Solaris is a 1961 philosophical science fiction novel by Polish writer Stanislaw Lem. It follows a crew of scientists on a research station as they attempt to understand an extraterrestrial intelligence, which takes the form of a vast ocean on the titular alien planet. The novel is among Lem's best-known works.

Solaris Research Institute for See and Space Law Analogy (Solaris) is a unique interdisciplinary research center designed to carry out cross-domain investigations to resolve space law issues on which there is no previous authority using both analogical reasoning employed in statutory law and analogical reasoning present in precedential law (case law).
